Paid Pre-Apprenticeship Summer Camp

EARLY REGISTRATION OPEN

At Knowledge Builders' Bright Idea Summer Camp, we believe in providing students with the tools they need to succeed in the world of electrical careers. Bright Idea offers a unique opportunity for high school students to explore the exciting world of electricity through hands-on learning experiences, real-world exposure, and industry-leading mentorship.

Campers are guaranteed to have an incredible opportunity by visiting local utilities company where students are given an inside look at the operations of a local utility providers. Students participate in detailed presentations and shadow professionals in key departments, gaining firsthand knowledge of the vital work that keeps the community powered. Departments explored included:

  • Substations & System Protection: Understanding the role of substations in managing the flow of electricity and ensuring the grid remains stable and safe.

  • Engineering: Seeing how engineers design and maintain electrical systems that meet the needs of modern communities.

  • Electric Generation: Learning about how electricity is generated, from power plants to distribution, and the technologies that make it possible.

  • Lineman: Observing skilled linemen in action and learning about the safety protocols and technical skills required to work on power lines.

Hands-On Learning:
Students also gain practical, hands-on experience in basic electrical knowledge, including AC/DC wiring, electrical circuit building, and safe practices for working with electricity. With a focus on real-world applications, the camp allows students to connect classroom theory with actual industry practices.

What’s New This Year:
This summer, we’re excited to expand on these experiences. Students will continue to build their understanding of electrical systems, while also diving deeper into emerging technologies in the electrical field, including renewable energy, smart grid technology, and sustainable practices.

Students will have the exciting opportunity to visit the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) to learn more about career opportunities in the electrical trade, including the path to becoming a paid apprentice with IBEW. IBEW will also host hands-on presentations, where students can work with basic electrical boards, getting practical experience in wiring and circuitry, and learning essential skills needed in the field.

Additional Certifications & Financial Literacy:
In addition to hands-on technical training, students will receive vital industry certifications that will help them on their career path. This summer, they will complete CPR training and the OSHA 10-hour certification, providing essential safety knowledge for any work environment. Students will also participate in a financial literacy class offered by EdFed, helping them develop the money management skills necessary for both personal and professional success.

By the end of the camp, students will not only have a solid understanding of electrical concepts but also a set of valuable certifications, including CPR, OSHA 10, and financial literacy training. Plus, they’ll have a clearer path to a future in electrical careers.

Ready to spark your future?

Join us this summer at Knowledge Builders' Bright Idea Summer Camp and start your journey into the world of electricity. Whether you’re aiming for an apprenticeship, a college degree in electrical engineering, a career as a lineman, or spend the summer learning something new,  we’ve got the foundation to get you started.
